“Good Enough” Never Looked So Good

Case Study: Monthly Event Recap Videos for Twin Cities Wedding & Event Professionals (TCWEP)
Role: Video Editor, Creative Director, Soft Skills Wrangler-in-Chief

Overview:
For over five years, I’ve worked closely with the leadership team at Twin Cities Wedding & Event Professionals(TCWEP), helping shape their visual brand presence and evolve how they show up on camera. As a graphic designer and content strategist, I recognized early on the power of short-form video — not polished to perfection, but real, relatable, and relevant.

The Challenge:
Monthly TCWEP networking events rotate through different venues, and while the events themselves sparkle, the post-event digital engagement was a bit… dim. The team needed a consistent way to showcase each event’s vibe, thank sponsors, spotlight venues, and give members a fun digital keepsake — all without blowing the budget or burning anyone out.

My Solution:
Enter the “Instagram-moment-style” recap video: 60–90 seconds, mostly filmed with a camera phone in a single take, where TCWEP leaders deliver a quick, energetic rundown of the event. My role has been end-to-end:

✅ Developed the concept of short, personality-driven recaps tailored for social media and the web
✅ Media training with leadership — helping them ditch the “uhhhhs,” talk to the camera like it’s a person, and actually look at the lens 👀
✅ Post-production editing, including:
– Cleaning up audio from lav mics
– Adding upbeat background music and subtle sound effects
– Cutting in event photos from the hired photographer
– Adding tasteful transitions and fade-ins
✅ Coordinating all the moving parts: collecting media assets, sourcing social media handles for sponsors, writing captions, and uploading content across channels
✅ Cross-platform distribution via Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TCWEP’s website

The Outcome:

  • Increased engagement: Recap videos consistently outperform static posts
  • Search engine visibility: Our videos often appear in Google results for the featured venues/vendors
  • Stronger sponsor relationships: Tagging sponsors and showing their offerings boosts their value and ours
  • Budget-friendly impact: Using what we already have — a phone, a mic, some Canva magic, and a good eye — we’re maximizing value without breaking the bank

Why It Works:
These videos aren’t flawless, and that’s the point. They feel real. They reflect the warmth and authenticity of TCWEP events. In an age where overproduced can feel overdone, we’ve embraced a style that’s good enough — and that’s turned out to be more than enough.
